Captivated by a Lady's Charm is a story about regret and forgiveness and having the courage to grasp your destiny. I liked this story and its characters
Christian Villiers, the Marquess of St. Cyr is a veteran of the Napoleonic wars. Even though others may think him heroic, he views his life differently. He has returned to an estate that is in need of massive funds and his mother and sister are relying on him to marry an heiress to pump resources back into the family coffers. Christian hates that he must marry for money but he knows not just his family but tenants are counting on him too and he cannot stand letting down even one more person. So he sets his sights on the wealthy ladies of the ton, methodically deciding who would be the best match, he does not want to have strong feelings for his prospective bride. For Christian this is a business arrangement, pure and simple.
Lady Prudence Tidemore comes from a family who are no stranger to scandals. Her mother has droned into her head to not cause any kind of whisperings and gossip. Prudence though longs for more than the stodgy men she has met in the marriage mart. She is attracted to Christian immediately mostly because he is different. He ignores the dictates of the ton and does something remarkable, at least in Prudence’s mind, he asks her to dance not just once but twice. Prudence is smitten and even though she knows that Christian is hunting solely for a fortune (she has one) she has decided he is the one. The problem is Christian feels way too much for Prudence and he just does not want to risk his heart.
These two leads are both determined people. Christian wants to go through life in a numbed state and Prudence to experience life on her terms. This couple reveals their emotions in big and small ways. Christian is a man who needs to move beyond his past misery and anguish and Prudence knows she can help him achieve peace. At the same time, Christian begins to allow his heart’s door to widen just a bit to Prudence’s sunny nature and unbeatable optimism. There are some lovely scenes in this story and this couple has a gentle yet passionate relationship.
Another fantastic story by Christi Caldwell. She has once wrote a story that will captivate the reader, drawing them in and making them feel every thing her characters are going through. The ability to write about broken men and woman and not make them seem self pitying and silly is utterly amazing. From the very first sentence to the very last word, you will be entralled and enchanted. You wont want to put the book down and when its over it will leave you fulfilled with the main characters but needing more from the secondary characters.
Christian Villiers, Marquess St Cyr, is guilt ridden, broken and utterly broke. With no money to his name, he must find and marry an heiress within 3 months time.
Prudence Tidmore aka Pru, is about to embark on her first season with multiple scandals hanging over her head. She is dreading her debut because of the scandalous nature of how her brother and oldest sister married and because she looks horrid in white.
A chance meeting outside a shop with the Marquess of St Cyr, suddenly changes Pru's mind about the possibilities of the season.
Christian is determined to find a wife will meet his criteria of being an heiress but who will also not expect any type of feelings from him because he doesn't believe he is capable of having them. He thinks he is a coward and undeserving of any type of happiness.
Will Prudence be able to convince Christian that he deserves so much more than what he has condemned himself to or will he settle for less than he deserves? You'll have to delve into this story to find out for your self. Trust me, you won't regret it.
