Fourteen Days Later A fun laugh out loud romantic comedy Helen Grey Book 1 edition by Sibel Hodge Humor Entertainment eBooks

This is a light-hearted, cheery, brilliant, one-of-a-kind story. If you're in the mood for some light brit-chick-lit, this will take your mind away into another dimension and just make you smile...a lot! Helen is a character that one could truly love--she is honest, caring, and naïve at times, but nevertheless, just so lovely. The story starts out with her in a mournful funk after breaking up with her no-good, cheater boyfriend. She hibernates from the world of fun by brooding over her looser love (so she thinks). Until one day, her best friend Ayshe gets her out of this funk by challenging her to a 14-day of just doing off-the-wall events, which opens up doors for a more exciting adventure in life. That's where the fun begins.

Helen is a klutz magnified by 100%. Her situations and mishaps are amusing, and her challenges throughout the 14-days are so whacky. During these 14-days, Helen is exposed more and more to her friend's brother Kalem (Helen grew up with both of them after her parents had passed when she was a child). Throughout their chance meetings, Kalem is constantly throwing sarcastic remarks Helen's way and jabbing at her antics, which really feels very endearing to me. .. so very playful, like a brother and sister banter. Of course, you will find out at the end of the book why he teases her every move. The tension of the attraction they both have for each other throughout the book really makes this story come to life. It's just very down to earth, realistic happenstance.

It's not a typical romance novel: it does not have all that hot-steamy-trashy frolic in it (which I do read). It's more energy-producing anticipation, smiling constantly, leading up to that happily-ever-after. It's an extremely enjoyable read: It's just too fun of story and plot to pass up. I highly recommend it, you won't regret it. Furthermore, I really enjoyed Sibel Hodge's writings so much so that I am now reading the sequel "The Perfect Wedding".

Fourteen Days Later A fun laugh out loud romantic comedy Helen Grey Book 1 edition by Sibel Hodge Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews

Helen has just gotten out of a serious relationship and wants to turn page to a new life. She decided to join 14 different activities to change something in her life. She's a bit clumsy and causes many funny incidents. When you read this book, you cannot cackle and giggle. It is a fun book.
In a new approach to both finding a man, and getting over one, Helen Grey accepts a fourteen-day challenge from her best friend Ayshe. Each day brings a new challenge, as well as a possible run-in with Ashe's hunky brother Kalem. Unfortunately the more time Helen spends with Kalem, the closer she comes to following in love with him, which could become complicated considering Kalem's Turkish Cypriot family.

Fourteen Days Later is a unique romantic comedy that keeps you turning pages to see what will happen next. Sibel Hodge vividly displays likeable characters and hilarious scenarios. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and will look forward to more entertainment from Hodge in the near future. In Search of Lucy
Fourteen Days Later made me laugh out loud. Helen has been grieving the loss of the cheating scum she hoped to marry for over a year. She really is better off with out him. To help Helen recover her best friend Ayshe challenges her to get out of her house and try one new experience every day for fourteen days. Helen's adventures become more adventuresome than she bargained for as she experiences mishap after embarrassment. Of course, Helen does find the right man to love her forever. Fourteen Days Later is a great read for recovering from a cold or for those found moments while the pasta is cooking when you want something light and uplifting. It is also good for just sitting down with some hot cocoa and enjoying a delightful read.
recommended this to me, and given it's price, I decided to go ahead and try it. I was a little bit hesitant, but I'd never have anything new to read if I didn't give things a chance. ;) Ultimately, I'm glad I went ahead and bought this book, as it really is enjoyable. It has a few flaws, but nothing huge enough (given that it's fiction, and even calls itself a romantic comedy) for me to knock it terribly.

Helen is, for the most part, a rather entertaining character, as are the rest of the characters in the book. Kalem starts off seeming a bit juvenile in the way he acts towards her, but once you learn more of their history, it becomes a bit more understandable. The sheer amount of things that seem to happen to Helen (especially give the fact that the book takes place over only 14 days) start to get a bit unrealistic after awhile, but as this book is "chick-lit" and specifically calls itself a comedy, it's not too hard for me to overlook that. After all, how many comedy movies out there have an equal number of things like that in them? I still enjoy those, since I know they're movies. And I enjoyed this, because I knew it was fiction intended to be comedic.

There are also a few very minor editing issues in this book, but honestly there are less than some books I've read that aren't self-published, so they're not hard to overlook. I also just have a bad habit of picking up on things like that in books, I doubt most people will notice them as they really are that minor. (Heck, at this point I'd have a hard time giving specifics without going back and rereading it, they were that minor. I can quote you several from some other books I've read without having to go back, though!) And while I do understand that the author is British/Turkish Cypriot, some of the British spellings/slang used almost make it look like she's trying too hard at times. That could just be me though - I'm less likely to use slang in writing than I am when speaking out loud. It seems perfectly normal when they're used in speech/thought by one of the characters, less so when they're used in a sentence in the book that isn't speech or a thought, but rather a description. (And yes, there are other authors who do this with whatever their local slang is as well. It's really just my personal opinion that slang works best in speech/thought as opposed to descriptions.)

Overall, an enjoyable book that I would highly recommend. Kudos to the author for a well-done story, and for getting out there and doing this! I went ahead and bought the second book (My Perfect Wedding) as soon as I finished this one, eager to hear the rest of Helen's story.
